Dear Fulbrighters,
We are pleased to invite you to our next Fulbright Club event.
Speaker:
Prof. Dr. István Peták, physician-scientist and molecular pharmacologist, founder and scientific director of Genomate Health and Oncompass Medicine, and one of the pioneers of precision oncology in Hungary and internationally. Prof. Peták earned his medical degree at Semmelweis University in Budapest and conducted research as a Fulbright Fellow at the St. Jude Children’;s Research Hospital in the United States. Throughout his scientific and entrepreneurial career, he has pursued the mission of transforming cancer care through molecular understanding and advanced technological innovation. Genomate Health (https://www.genomate.health) and Oncompass Medicine develop molecular diagnostic and AI-based clinical decision support systems that help physicians around the world select the most effective therapy for each patient based on the unique genetic profile of their tumor. His work has received international recognition, and his research focuses on integrating artificial intelligence, genomics, and clinical practice to support life-saving medical decisions.
Moderator:
Prof. Judit Sándor, professor of law, bioethicist, and Director of the Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine (CELAB) at Central European University (CEU). Prof. Sándor received her law degree at Eötvös Loránd University, holds a Ph.D. in law and political science, and has completed research fellowships at McGill University (Montreal), Maison des sciences de l’;homme (Paris), Stanford University (Palo Alto), University of Chicago, and New York University (as a Global Research Fellow). In 2004-2005 she served as Chief of the Bioethics Section at UNESCO in Paris, where she drafted, among other legal documents, the Explanatory Memorandum to the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. In 2005 she founded CELAB at CEU and has since led numerous European research projects in the fields of biobanks, genetic data, neuroenhancement, stem cell research, organ transplantation, and human reproduction. In 2019 she received the prestigious ERC Synergy Grant. Her interdisciplinary work connects legal, ethical, and technological perspectives, exploring the impact of emerging biotechnologies and artificial intelligence on human dignity, privacy, and health governance.
Topic of the talk:
"The Intersection of Medical Innovation and the Digital Data Economy - Challenges and Opportunities in Precision Oncology"
The lecture will provide an accessible introduction to how the combined forces of genomics, molecular diagnostics, and artificial intelligence are revolutionizing cancer treatment. Dr. Peták will explain how precision medicine is shifting the paradigm from organ-based to molecular-based therapies and how scientific research, data-driven decision-making, and clinical practice can be effectively aligned. The presentation will also explore the ethical, economic, and regulatory challenges emerging in the age of digital health and data-driven medicine, and will highlight how Hungarian research and innovation can find their place in this global scientific transformation.
Date: November 28, 2025 (Friday), 4:00 p.m.
Venue: Eötvös Loránd University, Professors Club, 1056 Budapest, Szerb utca 21–;23.
The lecture will be followed by an informal discussion, offering participants the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas.
